EASTER TINOS ISLAND

Easter belongs to Tinos

Exaltation of the soul in magnificent Tinos

Tinos is considered to be ahead of the game when it comes to Easter. But Easter in Tinos is much more than the devotion and the magnificence of Megalochari. Yes, Tinos with its dozens of churches in all its villages, and Our Lady of Tinos attracts visitors everywhere and keeps  secrets that can make your holidays perfect. First of all spring and Tinos are an ideal couple. The narrow alleys with the blooming gardens and the sea view, are the ideal color palette for everything that follows. Good Friday in Chora, the epitaphs meet in the procession, the epitaph of Agios Nikolaos will enter the sea with the torches on fire and the night will become magical. On Holy Saturday make sure you’ll be in the port of Panormos, where all visitors become a great company. But the best of all Tinos keeps for you for the day of Resurrection when the place fills with “tribonies”. This custom takes place in the village of Pyrgos and has been going on without exception for hundreds of years. The well-known weapons of sailors with the short barrel, the “tribonia”, play the leading role in the liturgy of Love or we would better say they accompany the liturgy of Love, as during the ritual they are heard in certain parts of the liturgy and have nothing to do with gunshots and bangs that we’ve all heard on several occasions. The people used to say that evil goes away by banging, but the “tribonia” because of their special nature offer a musical feast and make the Resurrection day special. And if you feel excited already, book a ticket now to visit Tinos for Easter and let it seduce you.
