The idea of the construction which came new to “sit” on an existing situation…

The construction of the small house by Kolybithra beach, only 15 m. away from the sea and with northwest orientation,  dates since 1883. In this space of 17 m² and 3,15 m. height of this existing space I was asked to design a small holiday house which should cover the needs of a family of four who wish to experience  a simple way of living for a few days, in the summer, in nature, by the beach, as living in a hut. The use of a loft space, a furniture – staircase and the use of concrete as  “ground” material but also for various  surfaces created a space which can respond to the simple needs of a family who is on vacation by the beach. The aim of the project was how  every inch of the space to be used though fully in balance with the functionality of the space. The materials that was used had to be resistant to their coexistence with the sand and the sea – birch wood and concrete – but also at the same time they had to reflect the idea of the construction which came new to “sit” on an existing situation.
