Tinos Marble Trail: Exomeria 2016

Tinos Marble Trail: Exomeria – Sunday 4 September 2016 in Tinos.

Following the great success of Exomeria Trail Race 2014, we are pleased to announce that Tinos Marble Trail: Exomeria 2016 is going to take place on Sunday 4 September 2016 in Exomeria, Tinos island.

Exomeria” refers to the wider area located in the northern part of the island, where the Tinian marble craftsmanship finds its roots and continues to evolve as a living tradition until today. It is worth noting that in 2015 the Tinian marble crafts were inscribed by UNESCO on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

In this context, the selected routes of the trail are defined by the presence of stone and marble, two fundamental elements which shape the unique local identity of the Tinian landscape and turn this race into a journey through an open museum of folk art and traditional architecture.

The participants will have the chance experience the wild natural landscape of the area, featuring impressive gorges, virgin beaches and rocky coasts, as well as the manmade features, including traditional villages and abandoned settlements, handmade footpaths, old stone-walls, remaining windmills and pigeon houses, marble quarries, white-plastered monasteries and churches.

The Marble Trail Team has managed to secure reduced ferry ticket prices and exclusive accommodation offers by the local providers, in order to allow the participants and guests to enjoy an affordable running experience package.

Available routes

Ismael Trail:      22km for experienced athletes

Wind Mills Trail:     5km for beginners

Pyrgos Kids Run:     1km for kids

Please visit the Marble Trail official site and sign up for the race:

The Region of South Aegean is a co-organizer of the event.

The event is under the auspices of the Municipality of Tinos.

The first place winners will receive unique marble sculpted trophies, made by local artists especially for the occasion, intended to symbolise the interface between the marble craftsmanship tradition and the remarkable contemporary athletic event.

Tinos Marble Trail Exomeria: The team

The organising committee of Tinos Marble Trail Exomeria consists of Marlas – Mamados Progressive Association, Venardados Association: “Aghios Ioannis Theologos” and Pyrgos – Panormos Cultural Association, three active local associations involved in projects and activities based completely on the voluntary work and participation of their members and guided by the intention to enhance and promote the unique local identity of “Exomeria” area.

Following the great success of Exomeria Trail Race, which was held by Pyrgos – Panormos Cultural Association in 2014, the cooperation with Marlas – Mamados Progressive Association and Venardados Association: “Aghios Ioannis Theologos” now allows to organise and promote Tinos Marble Trail Εxomeria 2016. A big number of members, local residents and volunteers are putting their efforts together for the preparation of the trail race, in order to achieve a well-planned athletic event and offer a unique opportunity to the participants.

It is worth mentioning that under the framework of Exomeria Trail Race 2014, 20 km of traditional footpaths and old rural trails were cleaned up with the help of residents, volunteers and local associations, enhancing and promoting the local landscape identity and cultural heritage.

The organising team of Tinos Marble Trail Exomeria 2016, with the involvement and support of the local authorities as well as the work of Nikos Polias team (All About Running) as technical support to the race, aims to turn this athletic event into an unforgettable experience.
